About the team The Regulatory Reporting team builds and operates Airwallex's automated compliance reporting pipeline across 10+ jurisdictions globally. We own the full stack: data modelling, submission tooling, AI-assisted review, and the internal platforms that compliance teams rely on to meet their regulatory obligations. We are a small, high-leverage team. Every engineer has direct impact on Airwallex's global licence health. What you'll do As an Engineering Lead you own both the technical direction and the day-to-day execution of the regulatory reporting engineering function. You lead a team of backend and frontend engineers, define the architecture, and act as the primary technical partner to Compliance, Legal, and Finance stakeholders. Responsibilities Define and drive the technical roadmap for regulatory reporting automation across all licensed entities and jurisdictions. Lead architecture decisions across data pipelines, submission tooling, and AI-assisted compliance workflows. Manage and grow a team of 4–8 engineers; provide technical mentorship, conduct code and design reviews, and set engineering standards. Own delivery of regulatory reporting milestones — ensuring reports are accurate, on time, and auditable. Act as the primary engineering point of contact for Compliance, Legal, and Finance; translate regulatory requirements into technical specifications. Drive adoption of AI/LLM tooling to automate repetitive review, gap analysis, and interpretation tasks. Define and uphold data quality, testing, and reconciliation standards across all reporting models. Partner with the broader Core Banking engineering organisation on shared data platform capabilities. Who you are Minimum qualifications 5+ years of software engineering experience, including 2+ years in a lead or staff engineer role. Strong backend engineering foundation — Python, Kotlin, or Java; comfortable with SQL at scale. Proven track record leading delivery of complex, multi-stakeholder technical programmes. Demonstrated ability to translate ambiguous regulatory or compliance requirements into clear engineering designs.
