About the Role

The Senior Application Developer is responsible for the development, quality, scalability, and delivery of enterprise analytics, data engineering, and cloud-native applications supporting Reinsurance Analytics solutions. This role will lead to the design and implementation of architecturally sound solutions, provide detailed technical designs, and drive the development of modern data platforms and analytical applications.

The position requires extensive hands-on experience with Databricks and modern cloud technologies to build scalable data pipelines, advanced analytics solutions, and machine learning platforms. The role will also support the transformation and modernization of analytics applications through cloud-native architecture, automation, and data platform engineering best practices.

What the day will look like

    • Play a key role in the design, development, and implementation of enterprise-scale data and analytics solutions using Databricks and Azure Cloud technologies.
    • Collaborate with business stakeholders, architects, product owners, and development teams to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
    • Design and develop robust ETL/ELT pipelines using Azure Databricks, Apache Spark, and cloud-native services.
    • Build and optimize data models, data lakes, data warehouses, and Lakehouse architectures to support advanced analytics and reporting.
    • Develop high-performance data processing frameworks capable of handling large-scale structured and unstructured datasets.
    • Lead the implementation of modern data engineering best practices including CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, automated testing, and observability.
    • Support machine learning and AI initiatives by designing data pipelines and feature engineering frameworks for analytics use cases.
    • Participate in architecture reviews and provide recommendations on technology selection, scalability, security, and performance optimization.
    • Mentor junior developers and data engineers on Databricks development standards, coding practices, and cloud architecture patterns.
    • Partner with global teams to modernize legacy applications and migrate workloads to Azure Cloud and Databricks platforms.
    • Ensure adherence to Agile development methodologies, DevOps practices, and enterprise governance standards.
    • Troubleshoot complex production issues and implement sustainable solutions for platform reliability and performance.
    • Contribute to the continuous evolution of the Analytics technology roadmap and cloud transformation initiatives.

About the Project

You will be joining the RAPID team working on the Altair modernization program. The initiative involves building a modern, Azure-based Workflow Studio that integrates multiple applications and enables end-to-end process custody from data intake through client deliverables in the reinsurance domain. You will work with a collaborative team including Solution Architects, Product Owners, Project Managers, QA Engineers, and reinsurance SMEs. The program is decomposing existing Altair capabilities and re-implementing them across Databricks (data layer), Workflow Studio (process layer), and Blueprint/Remetrica (analytics layer). Other existing projects in the ecosystem include Workflow Studio, Blueprint, Remetrica, and Altair manual processes.

Skills and experience that will lead to success

  • Technical Experience

    • 8+ years of application development, data engineering, or analytics platform development experience.
    • 5+ years of hands-on Databricks development experience in enterprise environments.
    • Strong expertise with Apache Spark, PySpark, Spark SQL, and Delta Lake.
    • 5+ years of Python development experience.
    • Experience developing scalable data engineering solutions using Azure Databricks.
    • 5+ years of experience working with Azure Cloud services, including:
      • Azure Data Lake Storage (ADLS)
      • Azure Data Factory
      • Azure Synapse Analytics
      • Azure Key Vault
      • Azure Functions
      • Azure DevOps
      • Azure SQL Database
    • Experience implementing Medallion Architecture and Lakehouse design patterns.
    • Strong SQL development and performance tuning expertise.
    • Experience building real-time and batch data processing solutions.
    • Hands-on experience with Git, CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and automated deployment frameworks.
    • Experience with data governance, data quality frameworks, and enterprise security standards.
    • Familiarity with machine learning workflows and MLOps practices is preferred.
    • Experience integrating data from multiple enterprise and third-party systems.

    Education

    • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, Data Science, or a related technical discipline.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Databricks Certified Data Engineer Professional or equivalent certification.
    • Microsoft Azure certifications related to Data Engineering or Solution Architecture.
    • Experience with Reinsurance, Insurance, Financial Services, or Risk Analytics domains.
    • Experience with Generative AI, Machine Learning, and advanced analytics platforms.
    • Knowledge of Kubernetes, containerization, and cloud-native application development.
