The Impact of a Sr Manager, Software Engineering at Coupa:
We are seeking a strategic and hands-on Director of AI Data Science to lead the development, deployment, and governance of advanced AI systems across Coupa’s platform. This role sits at the intersection of machine learning, data strategy, and product innovation.
You will define how AI models are built, evaluated, and scaled—driving excellence in model performance, MLOps, and data quality. A key part of your mandate will be establishing robust “golden datasets,” advancing AI observability, and ensuring our systems are accurate, reliable, and responsibly deployed.
This leader will partner closely with Engineering, Product, and Platform teams to embed AI into core business workflows, while setting the standard for responsible and trustworthy AI.

What You'll Do: : Domain Leadership: Manage 2-3 engineering pods (10–15+ engineers and potentially subordinate leads/managers), driving the execution of our cloud platform strategy and UI modernization. Metrics-Driven Execution: Measure and track the progress of feature development, quality of the code, and productivity of the teams. Work with other engineering leaders to continuously improve overall development workflows. Architectural Strategy: Partner with Architects to drive technical roadmaps. Oversee the evolution of legacy monolithic applications into scalable .NET microservices and responsive React micro-frontends. Organizational Growth: Partner with the recruiting team through the entire hiring process—sourcing, interviewing, and onboarding. Create action plans for both under- and high-performing team members. Process Improvement: Drive continuous process improvements and innovation. Be a subject matter expert, lead the team by example, and exert strategic influence across departments.

What You Will Bring to Coupa: : Experience: 5+ years of engineering management experience, with at least 8+ years of prior hands-on experience in web application or platform development. Technical Expertise: Strong background in distributed systems, REST/GraphQL interfaces, modern .NET Core architectures, and complex React SPA deployments. Strategic Vision: Experience establishing and reviewing business metrics, with the ability to articulate and provide visibility to the team on how new features meet those metrics. Problem Solving: Proven ability to manage priorities, set appropriate expectations with peer engineering management, and deliver complex, multi-quarter features on time with high quality. Talent Development: Ability to identify the training needs of various team members and ramp new hires on products, processes, and technology rapidly.

The successful candidate’s starting salary will be determined based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as skills, experience, and geographic location.
