Position Overview: ServiceNow is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Staff Software Engineer in Platform Persistence to lead a team dedicated to the meticulous management of data lifecycles within the ServiceNow ecosystem. This pivotal role focuses on ensuring the efficient stewardship of data within our platform. The Platform Persistence team is at the forefront of some of the most impactful projects, offering visibility to the executive leadership. As part of this team, you will play a crucial role in shaping the future of our platform’s data architecture and ensuring that data is stored, retrieved, and managed efficiently. In addition to traditional data management, this team will have a unique focus on exploring alternate storage technologies. Key Responsibilities: Lead and guide the development team in the design and implementation of data platform solutions. Writing highly scalable code leveraging best practices on concurrency and memory utilization. Shape and execute data management strategies, ensuring scalability, efficiency, and security. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define and implement data-related initiatives. Explore and experiment with challenging data problems including but not limited to data loss detection & recovery. Champion data best practices and security standards across the organization. Monitor and optimize data performance, troubleshooting and implementing improvements as needed. Stay current with the latest data storage and management technologies. Drive the use of AI to solve the most difficult data and distributed systems problems at scale; be a strong voice on guardrails and process for AI-led software development across the team. Experience shipping MCP/A2A-enabled platform capabilities is a plus. Act as a technical leader, providing mentorship and fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
Qualifications: 15+ years of software development experience within a high-traffic, cloud-based environment. Proficiency in Java programming and strong expertise in data structures and algorithms. Proficiency with concurrency and parallel programming concepts. Deep knowledge of databases, data modeling, and data storage technologies. Strong relational database experience to handle large amount of data on relational systems. Hands-on experience with writing and deploying java services in Kubernetes environments. Strong understanding of cloud-based and distributed systems. Experience with distributed storage systems such as S3 and Apache Iceberg at scale is a strong plus. Proven experience in leading and mentoring engineering teams. Familiarity with ServiceNow platform is a plus. Excellent problem-solving and communication skills. Working knowledge of JavaScript is beneficial for cross-functional collaboration. Track record of applying AI to hard distributed-systems problems, with strong judgment on guardrails/process for AI-led development; MCP/A2A platform experience is a plus.
