Master Data Management
Should have working experience in how to
set up the foundation of the system. This includes building:
- Bills of Materials (BOM): A detailed list
of the raw materials and parts needed to make a product.
- Work Centers: The specific locations
where work happens (e.g., a specific machine or a group of workers).
- Routings: The step-by-step instructions and time required
to turn raw materials into a finished good.
Material Requirements Planning (MRP)
MRP is the brain of SAP PP. It ensures you
never run out of materials to keep the factory running. You must master:
- Running MRP: Calculating exactly what to
produce or buy, and when.
- Planning Strategies: Differentiating
between Make-to-Stock (producing for inventory) and Make-to-Order
(producing based on specific customer orders).
3. Production Execution & Shop Floor
Control
Once the plan is made, it must be
executed. You must understand:
- Production Orders: Documents that
tell the factory floor what to make and which materials to use.
- Goods Movements & Confirmations: Tracking the real-time use of materials and logging the completion
of production steps.
4. Capacity Planning
This skill ensures you don't overbook your
machines or workers. You need to be able to spot production limits and balance
your workload so the factory can handle the demand.
5. Cross-Module Integration
SAP modules do not work in isolation. You
must know how PP connects to:
- Materials Management (MM): To handle
inventory and purchasing.
- Sales and Distribution (SD): To understand
customer demand and sales orders.
- Finance and Controlling (FICO): To track
the actual costs of manufacturing a product.
